Western Grandeur and Emerald Fairways

Idaho has always been a sportsman’s paradise, but now the state is adding golf as a major attraction. In Coeur d’Alene, The Club at Black Rock’s Jim Engh-designed course was named “Best New Private Course” in 2003. In 2009, a new Tom Weiskopf course will be a second option for owners.

The resort community is set in a rustic natural environment with rolling hills, lake views and black rock cliffs and is attracting a sizable contingent of home owners who stay from May to October, say developer Marshall Chesrown, with many coming from Phoenix and Southern California. Owners are all ages, and average about 46. Families with children will enjoy the Kootenai Camp with a new clubhouse for kids featuring supervised activities including fishing, basketball, volleyball, a rock-climbing wall and a zip line.

A full-service marina has 129 slips, and Black Rock Ranch has stables for members.

At build-out, the community will have 726 home sites ($375,000 to $2 million), homes starting at $1.2 million and golf cottages from $975,000 on 1,800 acres.
